Foundation

The Foundation intends to preserve and renew the historical memory and the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Monastery and the Order of the Capuchin Poor Clares.

Missions and Values

Since July 2, 1643, a monastic community belonging to the family of Capuchin Clarisse Nuns has been present in Città di Castello, which took the name of Capuchin Monastery “S. Veronica Giuliani”, after the canonization of Orsola Giuliani, who entered the Monastery in 1677, at the age of seventeen, receiving the name of Veronica. Sister Veronica, beatified in 1804 and proclaimed a Saint by Pope Gregory XVI in 1839, dedicated her entire existence, which ended on 9 July 1727, to the risen Christ, to the One who rose to the cross out of love and is the heart of the Christian faith, who asks to be welcomed, listened to, loved with a vital, personal and spousal love, a God-Love who overwhelms, who changes, who transforms people and their behavior so that they realize the personal plan that he has for each one.

By will of the Capuchin Monastery ‘S. Veronica Giuliani’, the Santa Veronica Giuliani Foundation was established in 2024. It is a Third Sector Entity that pursues, without profit, civic, solidarity and social utility purposes through the performance and exercise, exclusively or mainly, of one or more activities of general interest, for the purpose of cultural, social and moral promotion of the person in the various aggregations, encouraging the implementation of charitable, educational and training initiatives that fully express the response both to the primary needs of the person in cases of illness, weakness, marginalization, suffering, social loneliness, and to cultural needs and in any case the implementation of every initiative relating to the person-well-being relationship conceived according to the tradition of the moral and social teaching of the Church.

The Foundation intends, in particular, to continue the work carried out by the Community of the founding Monastery to preserve and renew the historical memory and the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Monastery and of the Order of the Capuchin Poor Clares, to share it with the social territory of immediate reference of the Foundation, as well as with all the believing and non-believing pilgrims who wish to know it.
