The stigmata of Saint Veronica – April 5, 1697

Suffered by the hope in the light of the Sacred Writing.

Padre Piero Renda, ofmcap

April 5, 2025 – 4:00 p.m. | At the Monastery of Saint Veronica Giuliani

“In an instant, I saw five brilliant rays issue from her holy wounds, and they all came toward me. And I saw these rays turn into small flames. In four of them were the nails, and in one was the lance, all burning like gold: it pierced my heart, from side to side; and the nails passed through my hands and feet.” (Saint Veronica – D I, p. 897)

At the age of 36, Veronica received the gift of the stigmata: these introduced her to an ever-fuller identification with the crucified and risen Christ. This gift is a sign of a loving relationship that transformed the Saint’s life, making her a witness of hope for those who had the grace to be close to her and for us today.

In this Jubilee Year, we wish to begin with the experience of Saint Veronica’s stigmata, which are at the same time a sign of suffering and hope, of love and forgiveness, to allow ourselves to be enlightened and guided along the paths of hope, thanks to God’s gaze on suffering that Sacred Scripture gives us. Father Piero Renda, a Capuchin friar from Palermo, will guide us in this reflection on April 5, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.

The Monastery and the Saint Veronica Giuliani Foundation are promoting this meeting, which will take place, weather permitting, within the cloister of the Monastery or in the Church where Saint Veronica’s body is kept.
